KCAL Invites Industry Experts to 2020 Business Owners Seminar to Share Latest Labor Law Updates

On the afternoon of February 20, KCAL Insurance held their third “Seminar for Business Owners” of 2020 at the Hilton San Gabriel. California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, FBI representative Kay Ko, and other state and federal officials from the IRS, DOL, USCIS, SBA, and more, were invited to share the latest business related information with business owners.

California State Treasurer Fiona Ma discussed the various government resources and how business owners can take advantage of these resources to financially support their businesses.

With the current economic state, many businesses have been greatly affected. Kenny Chang, President of KCAL, hoped to find ways to provide beneficial information to business owners during these challenging times.

An important topic discussed during this seminar was CalSavers, a government sponsored retirement savings program. Employers with five or more employees who do not provide this program to their employees could face fines of up to $750 per employee. Anita Pang, Institutional Relationship Manager, spoke on behalf of CalSavers, providing more details about this program including its benefits as well as how to apply.

In response to the latest labor law updates, attorneys William Lai and Roland Au of Chang & Coté LLP discussed the latest 2020 labor laws and trends that employers should pay special attention to. Topics included minimum wage, workplace discrimination and harassment, consumer privacy, pregnant employee rights, and more. They also discussed AB5 and the classification of 1099 employees and provided information on how to strengthen a company’s HR system.

Towards the end of the seminar, an interactive Q&A session on labor laws was also held and attorneys were also available for consultations.

KCAL invited Kay Ko, Community Outreach Specialist from the FBI’s Office of Public and Congressional Affairs, to share with employers on how to protect consumer privacy as well as strategies to strengthen their cyber security. Ben Raju, representative from the SBA, introduced various ways business owners could apply for government loans and make use of all kinds of government resources.

Angela Chang, Chief Strategy Officer of KCAL, hopes to continue to host these seminars for business owners to share important business related information with business owners as well as the latest legal updates to keep businesses compliant with the law.
