A Special Visit to Support Education
On Tuesday, Glen A. Wilson High School in the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District welcomed two special guests—KCAL Insurance President Kenny Chang and Chief Strategy Officer Angela Chang. The school invited them to serve as “Principals for a Day.” Throughout the visit, they connected with students, explored STEM learning projects, and took on the important role of awarding certificates to outstanding achievers.
Glen A. Wilson High School, known as one of Southern California’s top-performing schools, has made significant strides in STEM education in recent years. As a longtime advocate for education and a proud sponsor of the school’s robotics team, KCAL Insurance has played a key role in supporting this growth. During the visit, Kenny and Angela Chang toured the school’s Science and Innovation Center. As a result, they experienced firsthand how theory and hands-on learning now go hand in hand.
Real-World Skills on Display
To better align student interests with future college majors, the school has introduced specialized academic tracks. These include biotechnology, computer science, and engineering. Notably, President Chang joined the biotech group in testing a student-built ECG monitoring system. He praised the students’ accuracy and innovation, noting how impressive the results were.
Moreover, the students came well-prepared for their honorary principals. When President Chang asked how to detect if an email account had been hacked, a student confidently logged into the backend and explained the process. The students’ professionalism and expertise led President Chang to joke that it felt more like visiting a hospital than a high school.
This marked the sixth time President Chang has served as a “Principal for a Day.” Over the years, he has witnessed remarkable progress in the local schools supported by KCAL Insurance. Not only have classrooms integrated more advanced technology, but the curriculum now also emphasizes both academic knowledge and practical application. Furthermore, students are encouraged to step outside the classroom and take part in competitions and enrichment activities that broaden their horizons.
